Wayne Bennett has reached an agreement with South Sydney Rabbitohs on a lucrative three-year contract worth $3 million. The deal was negotiated during a meeting between Bennett and Rabbitohs officials in Brisbane on Monday. While the contract has not been officially signed yet, the Rabbitohs representatives traveled to Queensland to finalize the terms of the arrangement with the experienced coach.
According to sources, South Sydney Rabbitohs officials have scheduled a meeting with Wayne Bennett during the upcoming Magic Round weekend, where it is anticipated he will officially sign a contract to return to the club next season. The deal is reported to include performance-based bonuses tied to the team’s on-field results.
However, Rabbitohs leadership remains cautious in celebrating the agreement, given Bennett’s history of late changes to verbal commitments, most notably reneging on previous agreements to join the Sydney Roosters and St George Illawarra.
Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly was among the South Sydney officials who met with Bennett earlier this week to finalize the terms of the contract.
