Breaking: Head Coach Mark Pope’ Send Clear Message to Kentucky Star Otega Oweh Concerning A Major Decision
Last season, Otega Oweh emerged as the standout player for the Kentucky Wildcats, and fans across Big Blue Nation are hopeful he’ll be among the nation’s elite next year.
He has a strong chance to achieve that, but it hinges on whether he withdraws from the NBA Draft.

Oweh is currently testing the draft process, which is a smart move for his career. However, he’s expected to return to Kentucky, especially since he hasn’t appeared in any recent mock drafts—something that gives fans hope, though nothing is certain yet.
During a conversation with Jon Rothstein, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope addressed Oweh’s status. Pope said, “Otega is going through this draft process and we’re supporting him the whole way, but I know a big part of his heart is still at Kentucky. If he comes back, he’s likely the frontrunner for SEC Player of the Year.”
There’s little doubt Oweh will eventually make it to the NBA, but another year at Kentucky—where he can sharpen his skills across the board—would raise his draft stock. Improving his three-point shooting is likely to be a major focus this offseason.
Fans are anxiously awaiting word that Oweh has withdrawn from the draft, though a final decision may still be weeks away.
