Breaking: Head coach Kyle Shanahan update regarding Christian McCaffrey

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update on Christian McCaffrey on Friday. Although McCaffrey is eligible to return from injured reserve, Shanahan informed the media that the team will not be activating his three-week practice window. Additionally, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that McCaffrey is not anticipated to participate in the 49ers’ Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, October 20.

The 49ers placed McCaffrey on injured reserve in Week 2 because of his Achilles and calf injuries. San Francisco might attempt to bring McCaffrey back for Week 8 on October 27, or they could opt to sit him out for the next two games and wait until after their Week 9 bye, aiming for a return on November 10 in Week 10. Jordan Mason has performed well as the primary running back in McCaffrey’s absence, but he exited Thursday’s game with a shoulder injury.
