Cobra alumni signs with Stamps
A BRformer player for the Cochrane Cobras, has signed with the Calgary Stampeders and has been placed on their practice roster.
Originally drafted in the sixth round (64th overall) of the 2024 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts, the defensive lineman signed with the team on May 6. He participated in two preseason games before being released on June 1. Sambu was signed by the Stampeders on July 16, marking his return to Alberta after completing his entire collegiate career in the NCAA.
In his final season (2023) at Baylor University in Texas, Sambu played in 12 games and recorded two tackles. He was one of six former Baylor players who participated in the inaugural Big 12 Conference Pro Day in Frisco, TX, in March.
Standing 6’4″ and weighing 282 pounds, Sambu spent the previous four years (2019-22) at the University of Maine. During his time with the Black Bears, he played in 28 games and totaled 59 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. In 2022, he led Maine in sacks with 5.5 and in quarterback hurries with six.
Sambu represented the Cochrane Cobras as part of the South All-Stars during the 2016 Senior Bowl. He also played three games with the Calgary Colts juniors in 2016 and spent one season with the Football North program in Mississauga, Ontario, before enrolling at the University of Maine.
