BREAKING NEWS: Green Bay Packers Coach Abruptly Steps Away From Team

The Green Bay Packers are expected to have lofty goals as they head into the 2024 season. After making it to the divisional round of the playoffs during Jordan Love’s debut as a starting quarterback, that level of performance will be considered the minimum standard in his second year. Although the offense hit its stride towards the end of the season, showcasing its ability to score against any opponent, the defense struggled at times.

After the season, the Packers opted for a change in leadership by bringing in former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley as their new defensive coordinator. However, there appears to be an additional opening for a defensive coaching role within the team.

Sources have revealed that Jerry Montgomery, the Green Bay Packers’ defensive line coach and run game coordinator, will not be part of Jeff Hafley’s staff next season. Montgomery has been with the team since 2015 and has received offers to coach elsewhere.

In 2015, Montgomery joined Dom Capers’ staff as a defensive assistant after spending eight years coaching at the college level. He was promoted to the role of defensive line coach during Mike Pettine’s first season as the Packers’ defensive coordinator in 2018. Additionally, Joe Barry appointed him as the team’s running game coordinator in 2022. Montgomery held the distinction of being the longest-serving coach on the Packers’ staff.

Reports suggest that Montgomery will soon interview for a coaching position with the New England Patriots, as indicated by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Meanwhile, the Packers have yet to announce who will take over coaching responsibilities for their defensive line.
