BREAKING: Georgia Tech set to Announce another Major commitment “First 5-star since 2004”

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are expected to secure their first five-star recruit since 2004, with 247Sports anticipating a commitment from five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 265 pounds, Petty is rated as the 14th best player nationally and ranks fourth among Georgia recruits, making him the top offensive tackle in the state. Nationally, he is considered the second-best offensive tackle.

If Petty commits to Georgia Tech and retains his five-star status, he would become only the second five-star recruit in the school’s history, following five-star wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who signed in 2004.

The Georgia Bulldogs typically benefit from minimal in-state recruiting competition, as no other state offers as many elite prospects. However, Georgia Tech’s rising prominence in recruiting could signal a significant shift in Georgia’s recruiting landscape.

Georgia Tech hasn’t finished with a top 40 recruiting class since the 2020 cycle, which means the Yellow Jackets might not pose an immediate threat to Georgia’s consistent success in securing top-three classes. However, under head coach Brent Key, they are making strides and increasingly becoming a challenge for the Bulldogs.

Currently, head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia dominate the Peach State, having received commitments from eight of the top 30 recruits in Georgia for the 2025 cycle, with expectations to secure even more. No other program has more than two commitments from this group of top recruits in the state.
