Arkansas Lands Prized Linebacker Transfer Stephen Dix Jr.
In a major coup for the Arkansas Razorbacks football program, the team has secured the commitment of highly sought-after linebacker transfer Stephen Dix Jr. This addition bolsters the Razorbacks’ defensive unit and brings valuable experience to the linebacker room.
Dix, a former standout at Florida State and Marshall, has chosen to continue his collegiate career in Fayetteville. The 6-1, 237-pound linebacker impressed the Razorbacks coaching staff during his official visit, which he described as “probably one of the best visits I’ve been on in all of the recruiting I’ve ever had.”
Dix’s journey has been marked by both success and adversity. After signing with Florida State as a part of the 2020 class, he went on to play 21 games for the Seminoles over the 2020 and 2021 seasons. However, he missed the 2022 season due to injury. Undeterred, Dix transferred to Marshall for the 2023 season, where he recorded an impressive stat line of 67 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, 1 pass breakup, and 1 recovered fumble.
Dix’s experience and talent have caught the attention of the Razorbacks coaching staff, particularly defensive coordinator Travis Williams, whom Dix cited as a major factor in his decision. “Definitely because of Coach T-Will,” Dix said. “I think he is an awesome coach. Seeing him how he is I think he would help me grow not only as a player, but as a man.”
With three of Arkansas’ top linebackers being sophomores or a redshirt freshman, Dix’s addition brings a valuable veteran presence to the unit. “Absolutely coming in, I think I would have the opportunity to impact especially with this group,” Dix said. “Definitely been looking at them over the course of being here. A talented group without a doubt. I would just add a little more experience.”
Dix’s impressive physical attributes, including a 365-pound bench press and 650-pound squat, further solidify his status as a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side of the ball. The Razorbacks have landed a true gem in Dix, and fans can look forward to witnessing his impact on the field in the upcoming season.
This commitment marks the fifth transfer addition to the Razorbacks’ roster this spring, underscoring the program’s strategic approach to bolstering its talent through the transfer portal. With Stephen Dix Jr. now on board, the Razorbacks have taken a significant step towards strengthening their defensive unit and positioning themselves for a successful 2024 campaign.
