A former LSU wide receiver will officially start practicing with an SEC rival on Tuesday. According to Bruce Feldman, Deion Smith is set to take the field with Ole Miss.
Smith began his college career at LSU in 2021 but transferred due to the coaching change from Ed Orgeron to Brian Kelly. He spent two years at a junior college before moving to Ole Miss, although there were some delays that prevented him from practicing right away.
While many big names are part of Ole Miss’s transfer class, Smith has gone somewhat unnoticed, but he possesses the talent to make a difference in 2024.
In 2021, Smith recorded 11 receptions for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Although those numbers aren’t extensive, he showcased some impressive highlights on film.
As a high school recruit, Smith was a four-star player and the top prospect in Mississippi. Later, after his time in junior college, On3 ranked him as the best JUCO recruit in the nation.

Smith won’t be the only former LSU player on the field for Ole Miss in 2024. Former LSU running back Logan Diggs is also joining the Rebels’ offense after leading LSU running backs in rushing yards last season.
Ole Miss is counting on a strong transfer class to elevate the program within the SEC, compensating for some challenges in high school recruiting.
