Breaking: Florida State loses another top veteran defender to NCAA Transfer Portal
Florida State’s roster is facing further changes following the end of spring practice. With a ten-day NCAA Transfer Portal window open, this is the last chance for college programs to make roster adjustments ahead of the 2025 season.
The Seminoles have already seen a few players leave, and on Monday, redshirt junior defensive end Aaron Hester announced his intention to enter the portal via social media.
Hester was set for his fourth year at Florida State but will now seek a new school for the fall. Last season, he played a limited role in the defensive rotation, accumulating ten tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup.
As an FSU legacy, he recorded a career-high four tackles during the Seminoles’ loss to SMU in September.
After redshirting in 2022, Hester only played once in 2023 due to injuries. In total, he participated in 12 games for the Seminoles, totaling 12 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup.
I will be entering the transfer portal as a Grad Transfer with 2 years of eligibility left. Thank you Florida State !

The Florida native joined the Seminoles as a three-star recruit in the 2022 class. He is the son of Ron Hester, who played at Florida State from 1978 to 1981. The elder Hester switched positions from tight end to linebacker during his college career, a move that proved successful.
In 1981, he achieved a personal best of 132 tackles, along with four tackles for loss, two sacks, three pass breakups, one blocked kick, and one defensive touchdown. He was selected in the sixth round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 214 pounds, he is expected to have two years of eligibility left.
His departure further emphasizes the need for added depth on a defensive line that could benefit from another addition through the portal. While the Seminoles have seen encouraging performances from younger players like Amaree Williams, Darryll Desir, and Mandrell Desir, it seems that Florida State needs more to strengthen their presence in the trenches.
