Breaking Five-Star Quarterback Recruit Laughs At $4 Million NIL Deal To Flip From LSU And Play For Michigan

Bryce Underwood is regarded as the top quarterback in the college football recruiting Class of 2025. This five-star prospect from Michigan committed to LSU in January, turning down over 40 scholarship offers from nearly every major program in the country. Despite this, there are rumors suggesting he might switch his commitment to the in-state Wolverines due to a significant NIL deal.

However, Underwood seemed to dismiss these rumors, even laughing at them on social media. Interestingly, chatter about a potential commitment flip only surfaced recently. Some of the speculation can be traced back to The Michigan Insider, a 247 Sports affiliate based in Ann Arbor, where Sam Webb hinted at “fireworks” on the site’s message board last week. Adding to the intrigue, Dave Portnoy announced a pledge of over $3 million to the University of Michigan’s NIL fund in late September, asserting his intent to ensure his alma mater secures a top-10 quarterback in every recruiting cycle.

The 47-year-old Barstool Sports owner reaffirmed his commitment following a loss to Illinois on Saturday night.

Due to Portnoy’s financial pledge, there has been significant buzz surrounding Underwood. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback from Michigan is the top overall recruit in the nation. If Portnoy is willing to invest $3 million to help the Wolverines secure a quarterback, it would make sense for them to target an in-state talent regarded as the best player in that position, right? Wrong. Bryce Underwood isn’t interested! A well-known college football meme account shared an image on Instagram over the weekend, claiming that Underwood had been offered $4 million to choose Michigan over LSU. However, that seems to be untrue. Underwood directly replied to the post with just a sequence of four laughing emojis.

The college football rumor mill is always active. There’s always someone claiming to have insider info they got from a distant connection, like a brother’s wife’s cousin’s neighbor’s dog-walker. Much of it is nonsense.

In this case, we won’t find out if Bryce Underwood will stick with his commitment to LSU until he arrives on campus. However, the laughing emojis suggest that he’s not likely to change his mind.
