Texas Tech has secured a commitment from 2025 receiver, who had previously given his pledge to Colorado State.
A 6-foot-2, 175-pound recruit from Lubbock Cooper High School, announced his decision to switch his commitment from Colorado State to Texas Tech via social media.
He opted to stay local with the Red Raiders despite having other offers from Colorado State, North Texas, and Texas State.
Following his commitment switch, Dever, who is unranked, becomes the fourth receiver to join Texas Tech’s 2025 recruiting cycle, after Tristian Gentry, Bryson Jones, and Leyton Stone. As the 17th overall pledge of the class, Texas Tech’s 2025 recruitment is currently ranked 40th in the nation and fifth in the Big 12.
“We expect to have around 18 to 20 high school recruits,” responded Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire when asked by Inside the Red Raiders about the number of high school players he anticipates taking in the 2025 recruiting class.
McGuire explained that when assessing their roster upon his arrival, there was a noticeable lack of intermediate experience, such as redshirt sophomores and redshirt juniors.
As a result, he aims to gradually transition the team by recruiting more players who can contribute significantly in their third or fourth years of college, particularly on the offensive and defensive lines.
While they are making progress, McGuire emphasized that they will still aim for around 18 to 20 high school recruits due to the team’s youthful composition, with half of the roster comprising young players from the current and incoming classes.
