BREAKING: Elite Quarterback Announces Commitment To Unexpected Program

During the height of summer, the Purdue Boilermakers may have secured their upcoming star quarterback after four-star dual-threat prospect Oscar Rios declared his commitment to head coach Ryan Walter’s program. The Boilermakers ended the 2023 season with a 4-8 record during Walter’s inaugural year at West Lafayette.

Hailing from Downey, California, the 6-foot-3, 170-pound Rios is ranked as the 15th quarterback, the 25th player in the state, and the 234th overall prospect, according to On3’s 2026 Industry Rankings.

Rios received offers from 10 other programs, including the UNLV Rebels, Arizona State Sun Devils, and the California Golden Bears.

Rios announced his decision by sharing an image in Purdue’s black and gold uniform with the caption “I’m home!!!”

Rios’ commitment marks the initial addition to the Boilermakers’ 2026 recruiting class and signifies a bright outlook for the team’s quarterback position.

Rios’ commitment is a major acquisition, particularly as the Boilermakers face stiffer competition in the redefined Big Ten conference with the inclusion of the USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins, Oregon Ducks, and Washington Huskies.
