BREAKING: Elite Cornerback Announces Commitment To Unexpected Program

Nebraska is expanding its 2024 roster with the addition of former USC cornerback Ceyair Wright. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 180 pounds, Wright recently made it official that he will join the Huskers after his official visit to NU last week, as confirmed by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Wright becomes the fifth player to be added to head coach Matt Rhule’s roster this month, joining German offensive lineman David Höffken, NAIA player of the year and quarterback Jalyn Gramstad, running back Mekhi Nelson, and Iowa Western C.C. kicker John Hohl.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Wright played 23 games for the Trojans, including 11 starts, utilizing his four-game redshirt season in 2021. He officially entered the transfer portal on April 26 and departed from USC during the 2023 season, entering Nebraska as a graduate transfer.

During his time at USC, Wright accumulated 41 career tackles, six pass breakups, and one interception. In high school, he was a former Industry Ranked top 100 player in the class of 2021, rated as a consensus four-star and ranked as California’s No. 5 overall high school player.

Ceyair Wright provides a solution for Nebraska’s cornerback concerns

Following Blye Hill’s injury in spring, it’s uncertain who will step in at cornerback next.

The inclusion of Wright is a logical move, as he is poised to compete with Malcolm Hartzog, Jeremiah Charles, and Dwight Bootle II, among others, for the starting position during camp.

Pro Football Focus reports that Wright accumulated 849 defensive snaps over his three-year tenure at USC, with 623 of them in 2022 and 202 in 2023 before departing the team late last autumn.

In 2023, Hartzog had 556 defensive snaps, while projected starter Tommi Hill played 525.

Wright is anticipated to promptly join the campus as a graduate transfer. He pursued a communications major at USC and possesses a diverse background in acting and modeling. He has appeared in several TV shows and had a role as the son of NBA basketball star LeBron Jomes in the 2021 movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy.”

Moreover, Wright’s father, Claudius, played as a cornerback at Arizona and in the World League of American Football (1996-97).

It’s also noteworthy that Wright is a cousin of former UCLA standout Darnay Holmes, who was a highly sought-after target during the Mike Riley era and chose the Bruins over the Huskers in 2017.
