Breaking: During the College Football Playoff, Kirk Herbstreit is receiving backlash for his recent remarks….

The College Football Playoff semifinals begin Thursday with No. 6 seed Penn State taking on No. 7 Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. The second semifinal is Friday with No. 5 Texas battling No. 8 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.

Leading up to the reveal of the first 12-team CFP bracket, much of the debate surrounded whether a three-loss Alabama team was more deserving than a two-loss SMU squad that reached the ACC title game. The discussion continued long after the Crimson Tide were left out of the playoff.

On Tuesday’s episode of the On3 Sports podcast with Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit hopped on and discussed a number of topics. One of the topics Herbstreit discussed was the perceived SEC bias involving ESPN.

ESPN's College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit

“We could not have paid for a better final four with Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas,” Herbstreit said. “The only one missing is Michigan… So, this idea we want Alabama, Texas A&M, and Auburn. Are you kidding me? If you’re asking us who we would want, we’ll take Ohio State every year, Notre Dame. This is a ratings bonanza.”

Herbstreit also made some interesting comments about Clemson and others.

“You don’t want these small little Clemsons and small little Southern schools when it comes to cheering for ratings,” Herbstreit said. “Ratings are big, massive Big Ten brands.”

Those comments did not go over well with many fans, and they immediately took to social media to share their opinions.

“This monologue is so fake. The fact that he called Clemson and other’southern schools’ small, along with body language, validates it.

“Is he trying to be the most hated guy in college football?” said another.

“Hell of a cover-up, Kirk, I’m sure everyone bought it,” another wrote.

“He can’t even defend himself correctly. Mentions SEC bias and gives Clemson as an example of a school they “wouldn’t” want. Yeah man. They aren’t in the SEC, we know. Thanks for continuing to prove our point,” another said.

“Kirk doesn’t know how to quit. Every day he’s sounding more and more like a failed politician,” said another.
