BREAKING: Dallas Cowboys Projected To Select Dak Prescott’s Replacement In 1st Round Of NFL Draft

Since Dak Prescott assumed the role of starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys in 2016, the team’s trajectory in the NFL has been a perplexing one.

Prescott consistently performs at an elite level during the regular season, matching the top quarterbacks in the league over the course of 17 games. However, when it comes to the playoffs, he has struggled, leading to early exits for the Cowboys. Following the transition of play-calling duties from Kellen Moore to Mike McCarthy, the offense saw a significant improvement. Prescott and standout wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2023, emerged as a formidable QB/WR duo in the NFL.

As Prescott nears the end of his current contract extension, the Cowboys are faced with a critical decision. They must choose between signing him to a new long-term deal to create cap space for 2024 or releasing him after June 1, which would result in substantial savings on next year’s cap but also incur a significant amount in dead money owed to Prescott. With a no-trade clause in his contract and significant financial obligations, Prescott holds considerable leverage in negotiations.

Currently, both parties have acknowledged the lack of progress in contract extension talks for 2024. It appears that Prescott will play out the final year of his deal with the understanding that a decision will be made at a later point. This uncertainty marks a departure from previous seasons, with Prescott hinting at the possibility of not finishing his career with the Cowboys and potentially exploring opportunities with other teams in the upcoming season.
