BREAKING: Cubs Land 40-Plus Home Run Slugger In Proposed Trade

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly considering a trade that would bring one of the top hitters in baseball from the New York Mets to their team. Speculation has been circulating during the offseason that the Cubs are interested in acquiring a prominent slugger from the Mets.

Having made minimal offensive improvements during the winter, the Cubs may explore making trades during the upcoming season to enhance their lineup.

Among the potential trade targets for Chicago is Mets’ standout, Pete Alonso.

Earlier reports indicated the Cubs’ interest in Alonso, whose consistent ability to hit more than 40 home runs per season could bolster their chances of reaching the playoffs in 2024.

Alonso is set to become a free agent after the season, and with New York not appearing to be strong contenders in the National League, this might be an opportune time for them to consider moving Alonso.

A trade proposal put forward by Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints suggests that the Cubs would acquire Alonso in exchange for Cade Horton, Michael Busch, and Jordan Wicks.

While Alonso would significantly strengthen Chicago’s lineup, executing this trade would be more logical if he were to agree to a contract extension post-trade.

Trading away three of their top prospects for a first baseman on an expiring contract may not be the most sensible move for the Cubs.

If Alonso had multiple years remaining on his contract, it would undoubtedly be a favorable decision for the Cubs’ management.

However, since this is not the case, the Cubs may opt to hold off on overspending in a trade, considering they could pursue Alonso as a free agent in the following offseason.
