Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks is reportedly available for trade, and it may only be a matter of time before the Titans move on from their former first-round selection. Burks was drafted to succeed star receiver A.J. Brown and showed potential during his rookie year, participating in 11 games with six starts and finishing with 33 catches for 444 yards and a touchdown on 54 targets.
However, Burks struggled to build on that success in his second season. Despite a lack of significant competition at the receiver position, he ended 2023 with merely 16 receptions for 221 yards and no touchdowns. Under new head coach Brian Callahan, Burks managed just one catch for two yards in the season opener. This lack of involvement has led Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox to suggest that the Titans may consider trading Burks, with the Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers emerging as potential suitors.
Possible Trade Destinations: Panthers and Chargers
The Carolina Panthers, who had the worst record in the league last year, continued their struggles in Week 1. Even with the acquisitions of Robert Hunt, Diontae Johnson, Xavier Legette, and Damien Lewis, their offense appears among the weakest, while the defense misses key players like Brian Burns and Frankie Luvu. With rookie quarterback Bryce Young showing little promise, the Panthers may look to rebuild, which could involve a trade for Burks.
To avoid giving up draft picks, the Panthers might offer Diontae Johnson to the Titans in exchange for Burks and a later-round pick. Reports suggest that Carolina has not initiated contract extension talks with Johnson, making his trade more plausible as the team may want to capitalize on his value given the likelihood he won’t remain in 2025. If the season continues to falter, moving him might be a sensible decision.
Support for Herbert
Justin Herbert didn’t have to be extraordinary to lead the Chargers to a 22-10 victory against a struggling Las Vegas Raiders team. He finished with a modest 144 yards and a touchdown on 26 throws (5.5 YPA), while the defense and run game secured the win. However, this strategy won’t suffice against stronger opponents, prompting the Chargers to seek additional offensive talent. Although Treylon Burks might not be the safest option, a low-risk trade could be beneficial for the Chargers.
Herbert ranks among the league’s top quarterbacks, yet his receiving corps is arguably one of the weakest. Rookie Ladd McConkey showed some potential during Week 1, but the rest of the receiving group fell short of expectations. With DJ Chark on injured reserve, head coach Jim Harbaugh needs to add playmakers to compete with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens. While Burks alone isn’t a solution, acquiring him could provide much-needed depth for this lackluster receiver lineup.
