The recruiting effort is full steam ahead for Kevin Young and his BYU team, and recent reports suggest that their latest target is 2027 star. He is an exceptionally athletic guard, measuring 6-foot-5 and weighing 175 pounds.
He plays for the Academy of the New Church in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, earning himself a bit of a local All-Star status (sorry for the obscure reference!). Despite being rated as a “0-star” recruit by 247 Sports, Marquis has offers from Virginia Tech and Arizona State. So, what’s driving the interest? He has impressive potential as a two-way player who excels at driving to the basket and finishing strong against defenders.
With a smooth handle and impressive length, Newson excels at getting past defenders off the dribble and sprinting past opponents during transitions. He consistently maintains control of the game and plays at his own rhythm. Although he enjoys racing down the court when an opportunity arises, his speed can be misleading—it often appears as if he’s just jogging.
BYU is expected in on Friday for 2027 @ANCBasketball/@TeamFinalEYBL guard Marquis Newson, his coach tells me.

Comfortable playing above the rim and aware of the best angles to finish layups in traffic, Marquis is a promising player who could have professional potential if he continues to develop his skills.
