Breaking: Big 12 Team Shocks Fans by Benching QB in Favor of 17-Year-Old Playmaker

The UCF Knights have decided to part ways with KJ Jefferson, naming a new starting quarterback for their matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats. Jefferson faced difficulties in the first five games, especially during losses to the Florida Gators and Colorado Buffaloes.

As they approach the Big 12 game against Cincinnati, UCF ranks No. 88 in the nation, averaging only 206.8 passing yards per game with Jefferson at the helm. With a QBR of 41.8, he stands at 99th nationally, and he recorded fewer than 170 passing yards in three of his first five games with the team. In an unexpected move, UCF has opted for freshman EJ Colson instead of Miami Hurricanes transfer Jacurri Brown. Colson, a four-star recruit from Cedar Grove High School in Georgia, is known for his dynamic playmaking skills and is a more elusive runner than Jefferson. He reclassified from the 2025 recruiting class to enroll at UCF in 2024 and made his first career start at just 17 years old. Colson joins several highly regarded recruits that head coach Gus Malzahn and his staff have secured from the Atlanta area.
