BREAKING: Beavers has landed the commitment of a talented, highly sought-after OT from New Zealand

Tapu, an offensive tackle from Salt Lake City (UT) West, became Oregon State’s top-rated recruit as he announced his commitment to the program. Standing at an impressive 6 feet 7 inches and weighing 295 pounds, Tapu, despite being relatively new to football, garnered attention during his junior season in 2023, his first year playing high school football.

Having relocated from New Zealand to Utah just a year prior, Tapu swiftly attracted nine offers after his debut season. Expressing the significance of family ties, Tapu highlighted his familial connection to Oregon State, particularly the Moala family, where his cousin Jessaia Moala recently committed to the university, furthering their family legacy.

Tapu’s recruitment was notably influenced by offensive line coach Kyle DeVan, with support from defensive line coach Ilasia Tuiaki and his relative JR Moala. Notably, Tapu has NFL lineage through his relative Fili Moala, who had a six-season tenure with the Indianapolis Colts.

Although Tapu took an official visit to Nebraska, he ultimately opted for Oregon State over offers from prominent programs such as Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Utah. Furthermore, he holds the distinction of being the 8th ranked prospect in the state of Utah.
