BREAKING: Barnsley Honest Adimission on narrow defeat against Bolton Wanderers

According to the search results, Barnsley’s interim manager Martin Devaney felt that the “big moments” went against his team in their 5-4 aggregate defeat against Wanderers.

Devaney acknowledged that his side put up a strong fight, but ultimately the key moments in the tie went in favor of their opponents. The narrow aggregate loss was a tough result for Barnsley, who were unable to overturn the deficit despite their efforts.

The interim manager seemed to suggest that certain pivotal incidents or decisions during the matches went against Barnsley, contributing to their elimination from the competition. While Devaney praised his team’s performance, he felt they were ultimately undone by the “big moments” not going their way over the two legs.

Overall, the search results indicate that Devaney was disappointed with the outcome, feeling that Barnsley deserved more from the tie, but the crucial moments proved decisive in Wanderers progressing at Barnsley’s expense.

The Tykes emerged victorious on the night, yet their triumph was insufficient to secure a spot in the final against either Oxford or Peterborough at Wembley later this month.

Following the conclusion of the match, Devaney expressed his pride in his team’s performance to Sky Sports, stating, “I am so proud of the lads, the way we performed tonight. The first half – coming in 2-1 down – we spoke about character, believing in ourselves and sticking to the gameplan. The boys executed it so I am really proud of them. I care about this football club and know what it means to the fans. Hopefully, after that performance the players have shown how much they care.”

Reflecting on the match, Devaney highlighted areas for improvement, mentioning, “We struggled with set-pieces and at those times, we have got to defend a little bit better. That is frustrating, but we got back in it and found a way. We kept playing those diagonals. Sam (Cosgrove) caused so many problems all night, picking up second balls and sustaining the attacks.”

Devaney also addressed his interim role, stating, “I don’t want it. I have enjoyed it over the last two weeks, I am sure the club will make a decision in the next few weeks. It is down to the board, they will make the right decision at the right time.”

He reassured the fans, urging them to support the team and remain positive for the future, emphasizing that a new appointment in the summer will aim to lead the club towards promotion next season.
