Breaking: As Carlisle United and other league one heavyweights make acquisitions, the most recent League Two transfers

Chesterfield are not the only League Two club to have started their transfer business nice and early.

The bookies have lowered the promotion odds for the Spireites since they have already swooped to recruit Tim Akinola, Paddy Madden, and Kane Drummond.

These are some of the transfer-market actions taken by certain other clubs.

DONCASTER ROVERS

Playoff semifinalists Joe Sbarra, a talented forward from Solihull Moors, is their first summer addition. Chesterfield supporters will be familiar with the 25-year-old from their National League struggles. He agreed to a two-year deal with a three-year option.

“He’s had quite a bit of interest in him after the three or four seasons he’s had at Solihull where he’s been excellent,” Rovers manager Grant McCann stated. We’ve been following him and watching his games for a while, so we’re happy to have finally succeeded.

CARLISLE UNITED

Towering 27-year-old center back Aaron Hayden was released by Wrexham, where he was promoted twice in three years. The defender has since rejoined the Cumbrians. After leaving Carlisle in the summer of 2021 to join Wrexham, Hayden signed a two-year contract when he returned.

“He returns to the club with more experience under his belt and two promotions,” stated manager Paul Simpson. He’ll be a fantastic addition to the group, in my opinion. We set our sights on this player as soon as we found out he would be available. We are happy that we were able to reach an agreement on this before other clubs.

BRADFORD CITY

The League Two champion Stockport County produced two championship winners that the Bantams swooped to sign. Both center defender Neil Byrne and attacking midfielder Antoni Sarcevic left the Hatters. Both Sarcevic,32, and Byrne,31, have committed to two-year deals.

“He is now a player with great experience, an eye for goal, and a real will to win,” manager Graham Alexander said of Sarcevic. He will undoubtedly have a great impact on the team both on and off the field, and the supporters will undoubtedly value his dedication to the team.

“We feel his dominant presence and composure in possession will help us play the way we finished the season,” he continued, “and his influence and character will help the other experienced players set the required – both on and off the pitch.”

AFC WIMBLEDON

32-year-old striker Matty Stevens has committed to the team after leaving Forest Green Rovers, who were demoted. The 26-year-old, who made 133 appearances for Forest Green and scored 50 goals, has agreed to a two-year contract.

“Matty is a proven goalscorer at this level and has achieved promotion at the level too,” stated manager Johnnie Jackson. Despite having a wealth of expertise, he is still in a good enough age to wish to advance in his work.
