Just In: Army Black Knights Head coach Jeff Monken Announces Major Commitment from Virginia LB

Cameron Binkowski sought challenges in all aspects — athletically, academically, and socially — rather than opting for the path of least resistance in his college football recruitment journey. After careful consideration, the Battlefield (Va.) linebacker found the perfect match in Army.

Binkowski made his commitment to head coach Jeff Monken, defensive coordinator Nate Woody, and recruiting coach Aaron Smith known on Thursday. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 235 pounds, the senior showcased his skill by leading Virginia with 22 sacks in the 2023 season.

“Army was always at the top of my board,” Binkowski said. “The place is unreal and the energy there is something else. I wanted to go to a school that would give me the biggest challenges so I could grow the best I could.”

“The main reason (that he chose Army was ) that it’s different from the rest in many ways and would challenge me to be my best.”

In February, Binkowski received his initial offer from Army, which had already captured his attention. His older brothers also received offers from Army: Matt went on to play at James Madison, while Brandon accepted an offer from Villanova and is set to begin as a freshman this autumn.

Binkowski, who has 20 offers predominantly from FCS and Ivy League institutions, has made three visits to Army, one of which was for the Black and Gold spring game in April.

“Every time I go there, it never gets old,” Binkowski said. “The place is awesome and there is something about it that I love.”

Army is interested in recruiting Binkowski for the “Dog” position, a role he believes aligns perfectly with his abilities as an outside linebacker.

“I feel my skills are ideally suited for playing on the edge and rushing the quarterback,” Binkowski expressed.

Interestingly, Binkowski comes from a family with a military background; his uncle held the rank of general in the Army.
