Boston Bruins sign 26-year-old prospect with salary cap $775,000 on a pro-rated basis

Boston Bruins Plan to Test a Providence Player Before Seeking Size Upgrade for Bottom-six Positions Next Month. They Are Poised to Promote Justin Brazeau from Providence after Securing Him on a Two-year Deal Recently, Setting the Stage for His NHL Debut.

Cap Friendly reports that Brazeau’s cap hit will be $775,000 on a pro-rated basis. It remains uncertain if he will be in the lineup for the game against Dallas, as he has not yet trained with the Boston team. The absence of a morning skate before Monday’s afternoon game adds to the uncertainty. With Oskar Steen placed on waivers for assignment to Providence and Jakub Lauko dealing with an upper-body injury, there is a chance Brazeau could be called upon to play. However, a decision is likely to be delayed until after Steen either clears or does not clear waivers by 2 p.m.

The 26-year-old player, standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 245 pounds, went undrafted after playing in the Ontario Junior Hockey League where he recorded 113 points in 68 games during his final year in juniors.

His professional career began in the ECHL, but it was hindered by the impacts of COVID-19 during the 2019-20 and 2020-2021 seasons. Despite this setback, he managed to accumulate 34 goals and 48 assists, totaling 82 points in 116 games over the past two seasons with the Providence team.

Hailing from New Liskeard, Ontario, he was likely chosen over more offensively productive teammates in the AHL due to his size and potential physical presence on the ice.
