Boston Bruins Forward Could Be on the Trade Block

It’s time for another round of NHL rumours. As we near American Thanksgiving, there’s a lot happening on the hot stove. There have been a few early-season trades, but expect more deals as we approach the new year. While the season still has plenty of time remaining, trades could arise unexpectedly. One team that may need to trade a key player is the Boston Bruins. This edition of NHL rumours focuses on an important forward who could be on the trading block.

All NHL rumours are based on original sources and are subject to change.

Boston Bruins Forward Could Be on the Trade Block

Rumour: ESPN insider and former NHL goalie Kevin Weekes reported that Bruins forward Trent Frederic is attracting interest from several teams across the league.

Analysis: Frederic is entering the final year of his contract, earning $2.3 million per season**, and will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The 26-year-old has so far recorded one goal and three points in 15 games this season and is currently part of the bottom-six forward group.

Despite a career-high of 18 goals last season, Frederic has had a slow start this year. Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney may consider trading him to shake up the lineup, especially since Frederic’s contract situation means he could leave for nothing if not dealt.

Frederic’s Attributes: Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 220 pounds, Frederic is a physical presence on the ice. He brings speed, toughness, character, and skill, leading to an average ice time of 13 minutes and 30 seconds, which is over a minute more than his career average of 12:12. These attributes have made him a fan favorite in Boston, though Sweeney may want to trade him before he becomes a free agent.

Potential Trade Interest: According to Michael DeRosa of The Hockey News, three teams are potential suitors for Frederic:

  • The Colorado Avalanche, who are dealing with injuries and have cap space to add him.
  • The Minnesota Wild, who could benefit from his grit as they aim for a strong season after a previously inconsistent 2023-24.
  • The Los Angeles Kings, looking for added depth after a successful start.

Ultimately, Boston could opt to keep Frederic, but there are many teams interested in acquiring his services.
