Fortuna (Calif.) Union tight end Jacob Houseworth shared his experience of visiting Cal on an official trip over the weekend…
Jacob Houseworth, the tight end from Fortuna (Calif.) Union, was among the California-based prospects who went on an official visit to Cal over the weekend.
The visit left an outstanding impression on Houseworth.
“I had an incredible time during my official visit to Cal,” Houseworth mentioned. “I enjoyed engaging with all the coaches and meeting the other recruits.”
Houseworth specifically emphasized the strong influence of the coaching staff.
“The thing that stood out to me the most about the official was the coaching staff,” said Houseworth. “All the coaches were very good people and were all down to earth and were very honest about their program.”
Tight ends coach Mike Saffell has taken the lead in engaging with Houseworth and met with him alongside other coaches.
“I had meetings with coach Saffell, coach (Justin) Wilcox and coach (Peter) Sirmon,” Houseworth stated. “I have a strong positive impression of the coaches. They all have wonderful personalities and are genuinely great individuals. The discussions I had with the coaches were fantastic. We delved into football extensively, but we also had conversations about life. It was enriching to hear their personal stories and how they grew up, and to draw comparisons with my own experiences.”
During the visit, he was hosted by Hunter Barth and had the opportunity to spend time with other Cal players and recruits.
“Hunter Barth was my host during the visit, and I had the chance to socialize with a variety of players and recruits,” Houseworth mentioned. “I spent time with all the tight ends at Cal, and I also had the opportunity to hang out with another tight end recruit, Baron Naone.”
Despite being a native of Northern California, Houseworth resides 4.5 hours northwest of Berkeley, marking a significant change from the small town where he was raised.
“Coming from a small town,” Houseworth explained, “I wasn’t sure if I would like Berkeley at all, but after this official visit, my perspective has completely shifted. Berkeley feels like a town near the city, yet it doesn’t exude a purely urban atmosphere, which I found really appealing.”
Houseworth holds a three-star ranking by 247Sports, placing him as the 76th nationally ranked tight end and the 106th recruit in California for the class of 2025.
