Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott remains optimistic about 35-year-old edge rusher Von Miller’s potential despite his significant knee injury. McDermott acknowledges that Miller has not fully recovered from the torn ACL he suffered in 2022, but he is hopeful about Miller’s upcoming performance in 2024.
McDermott expressed his belief in Miller’s abilities on a podcast, mentioning that the first year following an ACL injury is challenging but that he is eager to see how Miller will contribute in his second year of recovery.
McDermott emphasized that it’s important not to underestimate a player like Miller and highlighted the impact he can have on the team.
Although Miller signed a six-year, $120 million deal with Buffalo in 2022, his performance was affected by the injury. While he initially showed promise with eight sacks and one forced fumble in 12 weeks, his 2023 season was marred by a slow start due to his placement on the reserve/PUP list.
When he did return, his performance lagged, leading to speculation about his future in the league. Despite this, McDermott remains confident in Miller’s potential, citing his impressive career and determination to prove himself.
McDermott believes that Miller’s Hall of Fame-worthy talent and his strong mindset give cause for hope, and he’s looking forward to seeing how Miller progresses in the coming months.
