North Carolina secured a commitment from Richmond transfer linebacker Andrew Seelmann, a standout defender and one of the FCS’s leading tacklers…
Seelmann enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, establishing himself as one of the most productive linebackers at the FCS level. He led Richmond with 120 total tackles, 52 of them solo, finishing second in the Patriot League and eighth nationally. His all-around impact also included 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, seven pass deflections, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, earning him first-team All–Patriot League honors.

He was part of a defense that surrendered just 290.3 yards per game, a mark that ranked second in the conference and sixth nationally, while also finishing second in the Patriot League in scoring defense.
Seelmann is no stranger to UNC, as he faced the Tar Heels on Sept. 13, 2025, in a 41–6 North Carolina victory. Despite the lopsided score, he was a noticeable presence, recording nine tackles and a quarterback hurry.

After the season, UNC general manager Michael Lombardi explained the program’s evolving approach to the transfer portal. “This year, we have a clearer sense of what’s in the portal, what might be available, and the type of players who fit what we’re trying to do at North Carolina,” Lombardi said. “We have to be prepared to fill our needs, and that’s why having a grading system and a strong personnel department is so important — so we can honestly evaluate and say we need to upgrade at a position.”
