BIG Transfer News for the Iowa Hawkeyes

Not far removed from a late June official visit to Iowa City, Thompson told 247Sports that he has has not only committed to the Hawkeyes but he’s planning to enroll early as a member of the class of 2025.
“What made me come to this decision is the staff,” Thompson told 247Sports. “(McCollum) really thinks I can have a massive impact this year for their team. I believe in them and I trust in them so I ended up committing to them.”
Ranked No. 59 in the class of 2026, Thompson will have to be re-ranked with the class of 2025 but no change in ranking changes the importance of Thompson to McCollum’s early recruiting efforts.
First of all, Thompson fits with Iowa at the four. He is skilled, tough, can make shots from deep, passes well out of the high post and is a solid vertical athlete who has a great frame to build on in a college weight room.
“I think being able to space the floor and pass the ball at an extremely high level is what separates me from the rest,” said Thompson. “The ability to push the ball but also play smart is key in his style of play.”
On top of him being a fit, the Hawkeyes had to beat some serious competition to land Thompson. Purdue was in early and hosted him last fall while Thompson also visited Clemson, Tennessee and Vanderbilt during the month of June. Whenever a coach moves from a mid major to the high major level, there’s always questions about whether or not they’ll be able to recruit to their new level and McCollum is proving pretty quickly that he and his staff are up to the task.
Iowa should now be done recruiting the class of 2025 and will welcome a huge cast of newcomers that is headlined by five-star Drake transfer Bennett Stirtz — the No. 3 ranked transfer — and their latest addition, Thompson.
Needless to say, Thompson is ready to get to campus so he can get involved both on and off the floor.
“It feels great. I’m excited to start working and making an impact right away fro the Hawkeyes. One thing I would want the fans to know besides my ability to play basketball is that I love people and being outside. I love all kinds of sports and supporting the community.”
