Big news for the Alabama Crimson Tide! Coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff are filled with excitement over the recent commitment of a key player
The Alabama Crimson Tide boasts the second-highest number of national championships in college football history, with a total of 16 titles.
Although the inaugural year of Kalen DeBoer’s tenure didn’t go as expected, the future looks promising for the program. On Monday, it was announced that Jamarion Matthew, an edge rusher committed to Alabama, has made significant strides in the On300 Rankings, moving from the 121st to the 65th overall prospect for the 2026 class.
Matthews is one of five commitments for Alabama in the 2026 recruiting class. Currently, the Crimson Tide has one five-star commitment, three four-star commitments, and one three-star commitment.
Ranked as a four-star prospect, Matthews is now the 10th edge rusher in his class according to the On300 Rankings. He has been committed to Alabama since February.
Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class also includes five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds, four-star corner Zyan Gibson, Matthews, four-star inside offensive lineman Chris Booker, and three-star defensive lineman Kamhariyan Johnson.
The Crimson Tide’s 2026 class ranks seventh overall on On3 Sports.
DeBoer’s first season in Tuscaloosa concluded with a record of nine wins, highlighted by victories over the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs, No. 21 Missouri Tigers, and No. 15 LSU Tigers.
Alabama’s four defeats came against the Vanderbilt Commodores, No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers, Oklahoma Sooners, and Michigan Wolverines.
Year two of DeBoer’s leadership kicks off against a team Alabama has faced only four times: the Florida State Seminoles, on August 30, 2025. The last matchup took place in 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Details regarding kickoff time or broadcasting for the game have not yet been announced.
