Mixon was expected to become a free agent, with the Bengals reaching a deal with former Colts running back Zack Moss. Initially, it seemed Mixon would be released to create room for Moss, but the team management had a change of heart and have now decided to trade one of their key offensive assets to the Houston Texans.
The Bengals have been active in free agency, making interesting acquisitions on both offense and defense to strengthen their roster following a disappointing 2023 NFL season. Alongside Moss, the Bengals have also secured commitments from Mike Gesicki and Geno Stone, while retaining several players whose contracts were due to expire, marking a strong start to free agency for the team.
Mixon will be moving to Houston to join a Texans squad that showcases a blend of young talent and seasoned players. C.J. Stroud made waves with his standout performances in the previous season, and the team already boasts a notable wide receiver duo in Tank Dell and Nico Collins. Mixon’s arrival is expected to further boost their capabilities on the field.
During his seven seasons with the Bengals, Mixon appeared in 97 games, rushing for 6,412 yards on 1,571 carries and scoring 49 touchdowns. With Devin Singletary heading to the Giants, Mixon is poised to take on a significant workload for the Texans as they aim to capitalize on their strong showing in the 2023 season and make a statement in Stroud’s second year in the league.
The Texans stand out as one of the AFC’s most intriguing teams, and the acquisition of Mixon is anticipated to have a substantial impact on their performance.
