Bad Sign for UNC Basketball in Two High-Profile Recruiting Races

Last season, the UNC basketball program hosted Caleb Wilson, a forward from Holy Innocents Episcopal School in Georgia, and he ranked the Tar Heels among his top 12 in late July. Additionally, another highly sought-after recruit in the 2025 class, Acaden Lewis, a top four-star guard from Sidwell Friends School in D.C., listed UNC in his top four schools alongside Duke, UConn, and Kentucky, which he revealed over the weekend.

Speaking of Kentucky, it seems that Mark Pope and his staff are gaining momentum with both Wilson and Lewis. Notably, the Wildcats recently secured two five-star recruits: Malachi Moreno, a center from Great Crossing High School in Kentucky, and Jasper Johnson, a guard from Overtime Elite in Georgia, outpacing the Tar Heels and others.

Johnson could play a key role in Kentucky’s efforts to add Wilson and Lewis to a 2025 class that already boasts multiple composite five-star recruits.

On Tuesday evening, following Wilson’s visit to Kentucky over the weekend and recent social media hints about a potential package deal involving Johnson, Moreno, Wilson, and Lewis, GREENLIGHT MEDIA provided an update on the situation. Their post included a photo of Lewis and Johnson wearing Kentucky basketball jerseys during their visit to Lexington earlier this summer.

Johnson shared GREENLIGHT MEDIA’s summary and included a public message directed specifically at Wilson.

Wilson responded with blue and white heart emojis, along with a “my guy” comment and a “100” emoji.

Additionally, Caleb Wilson tagged Acaden Lewis with an eyeball emoji, and Lewis replied with this post.

There are currently no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for either Wilson or Lewis, and neither has announced a decision date.

However, at this point, the likelihood of UNC basketball securing either of these highly regarded recruits seems to diminish with each new post from Johnson, Wilson, and Lewis.
