Miami CB has officially decommitted from Maryland as of Wednesday.
This means that the cornerback is no longer part of Maryland’s 2025 recruiting class. Jett White, who initially committed to the Terps in early January, announced his decision to withdraw his commitment and is now available for recruitment again.
He shared this news on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“First off I want to thank @TerpsFootball @CoachLocks @coachwill347 staff and everyone in the building for all the love and allowing me to further my education as a student-athlete but after prayer and talks with my family I believe it’s in the best interest for me to decommit from the University of Maryland and open up my recruitment,” he wrote. “Although I’m backing off my pledge to Maryland, they will remain in consideration when I make my decision come December. I will be an early graduate and will enroll in college (in) January 2025. As of now my faith is in God’s hands.”
White announced his commitment to Maryland during the All-American Bowl in San Antonio on January 6, where he stated he chose the Terps over Penn State.
He explained to 247Sports at that time, “In the end, it came down to the ‘need’ factor. I felt like I was needed more at Maryland and I can make an early impact there. I believe I can get on the field and play early and also get developed by a terrific staff that just had a corner drafted in the first round in last year’s NFL Draft.”
However, after his commitment, White maintained contact with other programs, including Miami, Florida, and Florida State. Additionally, his recruiting assistant at Maryland, Henry Baker, has since moved to Marshall. As a result of White’s withdrawal, Maryland’s recruiting class has dropped from No. 23 to No. 26 in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
