Auburn’s Chad Baker-Mazara Major Career Decision After Final Four Loss
Auburn Tigers head coach Bruce Pearl went to the Final Four for the second time in program history this season.
The last time was during the 2018-2019 campaign, when Auburn lost to the eventual national champion, the Virginia Cavaliers. Much like that season, the Tigers did not advance to the national championship after losing to the Florida Gators 79-73 on Saturday.
However, Chad Baker-Mazara gave fans something to get excited about, teasing a potential return to Auburn for next season. Baker-Mazara posted a simple question to Auburn fans via X. He asked, “2025/26 War Eagle?” If he does return, it would be his third season at Auburn.
Baker-Mazara once again proved he could be a reliable scoring option, averaging 12.3 points per game. The only Auburn player who averaged more points per game was star forward Johni Broome (18.6). Baker-Mazara’s season-high for points was 22 during the regular season against the Ole Miss Rebels in a 106-76 win. His career did not start with Auburn. He first played for the Duquesne Dukes in the 2020-2021 season.
He then transferred to the San Diego State Aztecs, where he spent another year. After that, Baker-Mazara played one season for Northwest Florida State College at the JUCO level. He led his team in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game.
He has played 73 games for Auburn since joining the program in 2023. Auburn achieved significant milestones this season, claiming the top seed in the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. The Tigers also won the SEC regular season title after the Tennessee Volunteers beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 79-76 in Knoxville. Retaining a veteran player like Baker-Mazara would do Pearl and Auburn a lot of good.
