In the latest Auburn Tigers News, the Auburn softball team endured a heartbreaking loss to Georgia after a grueling 14-inning battle, making it the longest game in SEC Tournament history. The score remained deadlocked at 2-2 from the fifth inning until the 14th inning, when KK McCrary’s three-run homer gave the Tigers a 5-2 lead. However, Georgia managed to hit two home runs in their final at-bat, securing a 6-5 walkoff win over the Tigers.
Head coach Mickey Dean acknowledged the team’s effort, stating, “We played hard. If we were a little cleaner in the beginning of the game, we might not have played 14 innings. That’s part of the game. We battled. We did a lot of good things. We just didn’t win the ball game.” The Auburn softball team now awaits the announcement of their regional destination, scheduled for this Sunday.
In other news, former Auburn football linebacker Cam Riley has had a tumultuous journey since entering the transfer portal. After considering Florida State and NC State, he initially committed to the Wolfpack but later retracted his decision. There were efforts to persuade him to stay at Auburn, with linebacker Eugene Asante appealing to the Auburn Family to support Riley’s retention in late April.
Riley announced his commitment to Florida State earlier this week. Having spent four seasons with Auburn football, he accumulated 120 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks during his time with the team.
