Auburn men’s basketball received some good news regarding the injury of star big man Johni Broome on Sunday morning.
Per an Auburn press release, Broome underwent an MRI Sunday morning which revealed a non-surgical ankle sprain. Broome suffered the injury around the 13-minute mark of the second half in Auburn’s win over South Carolina on Saturday.
No timetable was given as far as a return for Broome, but avoiding surgery was certainly good news for the Tigers.
Broome landed on the foot of a South Carolina defender and rolled his left ankle while going for a rebound in the second half of the Southeastern Conference win. He was gripping his left ankle and could not stand without assistance, requiring the help of two trainers to get to the locker room.
Broome had six points and three rebounds in 24 minutes before leaving the game with 13 minutes remaining.
Broome, who is in the running for the John R. Wooden Award, is averaging 17.9 points per game along with 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 blocks.
Auburn is 15-1 this season and off to a 3-0 start in SEC play. The Tigers host Mississippi State on Tuesday night.
