Auburn Makes Major Johni Broome Announcement Before March Madness
Johni Broome, the polarizing 6’10” senior forward/center for the Auburn Tigers, has been named a unanimous first-team All-American by the Associated Press. What a year it’s been for Broome, who has spearheaded an electric Tigers squad that is the No. 1 overall seed heading into the Tournament and the pick of many experts to win the national title.
Broome ended the year with a stat line average of 18.9 (PPG), 10.6 (TRB), 3.1 (AST), 2.3 (BLK), 0.9 (STL) and just under 30 minutes played (MP) per night. He has been at the forefront of a Tigers attack that has consistently throttled opponents throughout the year, to the tune of a 28-5 overall record and 15-3 record in SEC play.
Some of Broome’s signature performances this season include a 31-point, 14-rebound showing against Georgia and and a 34-point, 8-rebound eruption against Alabama where he also chimed in five blocks and three steals.
Broome also made his mark on the SEC Tournament, putting together a 23-point, 15-rebound showing against Ole Miss. Bruce Pearl and teammates have to be thrilled with the honor that Broome has just received. Countless hours of hard work and dedication went into Broome being able to earn this coveted award.
For a Tigers team that has lost three of the their last four before the tournament, perhaps the announcement of this award can grant them a much-needed momentum boost.
Up next for Broome is a chance to make his mark on the big dance after a shocking first round loss to Yale last year.
