Auburn makes big Johni Broome announcement ahead of NCAA tournament

The No. 1 Auburn Tigers have been firing on all cylinders all season long and are nearing the end of their tough SEC schedule. However, after suffering a loss on Tuesday night to the Texas A&M Aggies, they are preparing for their final regular-season game on Saturday against the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide, before the SEC and NCAA Tournaments heat up next week.

A standout performer for the Tigers this season has been star forward and former Morehead State transfer Johni Broome, who remains in the conversation for National Player of the Year alongside Duke’s freshman sensation, Cooper Flagg.

On Thursday, Broome was recognized for his exceptional regular season as he was named a finalist for the Karl Malone Award, which is given to the best power forward of the season.

Broome is joined by Eric Dixon of Villanova, JT Toppin of Texas Tech, Danny Wolf of Michigan, and Yaxel Lendeborg of UAB, all of whom have had phenomenal seasons for their respective universities.

However, this seems like an award that is almost a given to Broome, given what he’s accomplished in his final season with the Tigers. This year, he has averaged 18.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and an impressive 2.4 blocks per game, while shooting 50.4% from the field.
