The front office worked hard to get better in the offseason of 2023. The Los Angeles Rams traded for Jalen Ramsey, and David Long signed a free agent contract.

On that side of the ball, some reinforcements might be used as the club gets ready for training camp in 2024. In order to keep bolstering their defense, the Miami Dolphins would be prudent to enter the free agent market.

The organization has been advised to sign veteran edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue by Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report. It’s odd that Ngakoue is available at this time in the summer, but teams can never have too many pass rushers.

A portion of that may be related to the injuries he had while playing for the Chicago Bears in 2023. With just 4.0 sacks in 13 games, Ngakoue’s most prolific season to date was also his least successful one.

Throughout his career, the Maryland product had never failed to earn at least 8.0 sacks. Tansey thinks the Miami Dolphins would benefit from having him as superior insurance and depth off the edge.

“To add some depth off the edge to a lineup that already features Zach Sieler and Calais Campbell, the Dolphins could add Ngakoue.”

If Bradley Chubb need further time to get to full strength, it might not be a bad idea for the Dolphins to consider expanding their defensive line depth, Tansey said.

By the conclusion of the 2023 season, injuries had completely destroyed the Miami Dolphins edge rushing group. Apart from Chubb’s ACL injury, Jaelan Phillips’ damaged Achilles also cost the squad a player.

Additionally hurt for their playoff matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, Andrew Van Ginkel inked a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Bruce Irvin and Emanuel Ogbah, who are both free agents, both had big roles in that postseason game.

Ngakoue would give the Miami Dolphins an additional dependable pass rusher while Phillips and Chubb are recovering from injuries. Although Calais Campbell was a welcome addition, they still need more seasoned support.
