Arrested: Just days after kickoff, Texas Longhorns DB is in trouble with the law
Texas defensive back Wardell Mack was arrested by the Travis Country Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to Travis County Sheriff’s Office online inmate records.
Mack, a 19-year-old redshirt freshman from New Orleans, was booked into the Travis County Jail at 1:07 a.m. Wednesday. He was released Wednesday night on a $3,000 bond.
“We’re aware of the situation that occurred,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Thursday. “We’re obviously monitoring the authorities and where they stand on it. And then anything that happens beyond that we will handle internally.”
According to an arrest affidavit, police said they found two THC vape pens in a vehicle Mack was driving. The officer at the scene said in the affidavit that Mack appeared “nervous” and the officer could smell a “strong odor of marijuana” in the vehicle.
Mack was part of the traveling roster for Saturday’s Ohio State game. He played in the 14-7 loss but did not have a tackle. He played in four games as a true freshman in 2024. He made two tackles and had one interception.
