Arkansas’ John Calipari Dealt More Unfortunate News Before Final Four
In his first season following his departure from Kentucky, John Calipari had his No. 10 seed Arkansas Razorbacks as surprisingly one of the biggest Cinderella stories of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
But that came to a screeching halt when Arkansas blew a 13-point lead in the last five minutes to fall to Texas Tech in the Sweet 16.
Now, Calipari will see some major changes to his team for the 2025-26 season. Senior guard Johnell Davis has finished his college career and will likely head to the pros.
Along with a couple of other seniors finishing their college careers, young players, such as guards Casmir Chavis and Melo Sanchez and center Zvonimir Ivisic, have entered the transfer portal.
However, Calipari will now be losing another one of his key players as freshman Boogie Fland announced his intentions to enter the 2025 NBA Draft.
“Much love to Razorback Nation, Coach Calipari & the entire coaching staff, and every one of my teammates for believing in me,” Fland wrote on Instagram. “To my family, especially my mom and dad – thank you for all of the sacrifices you’ve made for me to be in this position, I couldn’t have done it without you. With that being said, I’m officially declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft.”
Fland, a 6-foot-2 guard from Bronx, NY, was one of the top players in the 2024 recruiting class, coming in as the 22nd-best overall prospect (247Sports). In his lone season with Calipari and Arkansas, Bland proved to be a solid addition, averaging 13.5 points and 5.1 assists per game.
Fland has played well enough to become listed as a first-round pick by some NBA mock drafts. The NBA has even compared him to Charlotte Hornets legend Kemba Walker and Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Rob Dillingham.
