Chiefs Injury Updates: Two Players Out Wednesday, Timelines for Recoveries
As the Chiefs practice on Wednesday, Andy Reid provided updates on the status of two players who are unable to participate, along with the ongoing recoveries of some key team members.
Following a victory on Monday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Kansas City Chiefs returned to practice in preparation for their upcoming game against the Denver Broncos. The reigning Super Bowl champions are facing a quick turnaround as Week 10 arrives, but the team is dealing with several injuries on both sides of the ball.
A number of players are managing both short- and long-term injuries, leading them to miss the first practice of the week. Head coach Andy Reid offered insight into the team’s health on Wednesday, noting the progress being made by key players. While neither player is expected to return to practice this week, their return could be approaching.
“Yeah, we’re taking it week by week, day by day [with] that whole deal,” Reid commented. “Then we’ve got to work through the doctors on that and the check-ups there. They’re both doing great, they’re both making progress. JuJu (Smith-Schuster), the same way. We’re getting close.”
It has been almost two months since one player suffered a fractured fibula during a Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Reports indicate that he is targeting a “late-November return” to the team.
The other player’s absence has extended several months longer. He suffered a torn ACL during the AFC Championship Game in January and began the regular season on the physically unable to perform list. A November return timeline has been reported and appears to be on track, which is positive news for the Chiefs.
In addition, JuJu Smith-Schuster and another player were held out of Wednesday’s practice. Smith-Schuster has missed two consecutive games after exacerbating a hamstring injury and is continuing his rehabilitation. Meanwhile, a defensive tackle who participated in the recent victory is dealing with a knee contusion, but Reid indicated that the team is being cautious and does not view the injury as a significant concern.
In summary, the two players unable to practice today are Isiah Pacheco and Charles Omenihu.
