Georgia Tech transfer reveals reason for transferring to North Carolina basketball

On Wednesday, the North Carolina basketball team announced a late addition from the transfer portal: Ty Claude, a transfer from Georgia Tech. Having played four seasons of college basketball, Claude brings valuable experience to the Tar Heels.

This will be his fourth team, as he has already transferred twice before. North Carolina explored various transfer options this offseason and has successfully secured three players.

“NEWS: Georgia Tech transfer forward Tyzhaun Claude has committed to North Carolina, as reported by his agents Ethan Coury and Corey Marcum of @EzSportsGroup to @On3sports,” Joe Tipton shared in a post.

This is a significant milestone for Ty Claude, who grew up admiring the North Carolina basketball team. He believes he can contribute to the Tar Heels’ success.

“I was a UNC fan growing up and Coach Hubert [Davis] made me feel like I was important to him,” Claude said, according to an article from ZAGSBLOG. “I know I can bring certain things to this team that translate to winning even if it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. I’m going to give 110% every time I’m on the court.”

Claude is transferring from Georgia Tech, but prior to that, he spent two years at Morehead State and one season at Western Carolina. Now, he’s set to play for North Carolina, marking his fourth school.

During his college career, Claude had his strongest performance at Western Carolina, where he averaged over 15 points per game. He had a solid freshman year at Morehead State, scoring just under 10 points per game, but was limited to nine games in his sophomore year. His success at Western Carolina caught the attention of Power Five schools, leading him to transfer to Georgia Tech.

Last season at Georgia Tech, Claude had a quieter year, averaging 4.8 points per game. While it may be uncertain if he’ll make a significant impact on the North Carolina team, he possesses a lot of confidence and believes he can contribute to their success. If he fully embraces his role and performs well, the Tar Heels could benefit from his transfer.
