The San Diego Padres came into this MLB season aiming for redemption after another early playoff exit. Despite being one of baseball’s stronger teams last year, they were eliminated by their rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Currently, the Padres have a 47-41 record but trail the Dodgers by eight games in the division. They’re firmly in the wild-card race and remain confident in their ability to make a championship run.

To strengthen their chances, San Diego is expected to be active ahead of the fast-approaching trade deadline. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the team is already making moves behind the scenes.

Nightengale reports that the Padres are “spreading the word to every seller” that they’re in the market for a right-handed hitting outfielder and a catcher, and they’re willing to trade prospects to get what they need. The team still believes it has the talent to end its World Series drought, especially with Yu Darvish nearing a return and Michael King possibly rejoining the rotation soon after the All-Star break.

San Diego is known for making bold moves, and GM A.J. Preller has built a reputation for aggressive trades. Injuries have impacted the roster this season, but with the right additions, the Padres could be a dangerous team come October.
