A’ja Wilson will receive another significant honor at the Colonial Life Arena, as South Carolina will retire her No. 22 jersey. The school made the announcement on Tuesday, and the ceremony will be held on Feb. 2, prior to the match between No. 1 South Carolina and Auburn.

Wilson, who has had a statue in front of the arena since 2021, was the program’s first No. 1 recruit, a three-time Southeastern Conference player of the year, and led the Gamecocks to their first national title in 2017. She is also South Carolina’s all-time scoring leader with 2,389 points.

Wilson was the WNBA’s No. 1 overall draft pick in 2018, winning two league titles with the Las Vegas Aces. Recently, she was named WNBA MVP for the third time and secured her second gold medal by leading the U.S. team to an Olympic title this past summer in Paris.
