For the Yankees, Aaron Judge is having yet another fantastic season. In terms of home runs, RBI, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, OPS+, and WAR, the centerfielder leads the MLB. Thus, it should come as no surprise that the Yankees slugger made his sixth career All-Star game and his fourth consecutive All-Star game.
Judge was asked how thrilled he was to see Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes in person during an interview with Fox Sports MLB’s Ken Rosenthal before the Midsummer Classic got underway. Judge promised that it would be electrifying in response. The fans are hoping for that. According to Fox Sports MLB on X, “They want to see the best out there.”
As a rookie, Skenes will start for the National League in the All-Star game. Fans will have a chance to witness the hurler in action, and players like Judge—who haven’t faced Skenes in the regular season—will get a chance to see what all the excitement is about.
In fact, Skenes, 22, has had a fantastic rookie season. Thus far this year, he has a 6-0 record and has struck out 89 batters in 66.1 innings pitched. Along with his amazing ERA+ of 216, the rookie has a pitiful 1.90 ERA, 0.920 WHIP, and 3.2 WAR from his 11 Pirates outings.
Judge told Rosenthal that he thought it would be exciting to play against Skenes in the All-Star game. He has only made 11 starts in the major leagues thus far. His accomplishments have been astounding. He’s performing in ways that I don’t think we’ve seen in this game before and racking up stats. According to Fox Sports MLB, the Yankees star continued, “He’s just starting his career but he’s going to have a long, successful career so it’ll be fun to see him go out there and do his thing.”
Juan Soto, an All-Star starter for the Yankees who is playing in his fourth exhibition, will be joining Judge in the outfield. Clay Holmes, the closer for New York, was chosen for the second time to round out the team’s picks with three.
Judge was also questioned by Rosenthal what he was most excited about about the occasion. Judge has nine years of experience and six All-Star appearances, so he’s got plenty of time to think about that. Above all, I believe the players. having the opportunity to interact with some of the best players in the game. Ask them questions, converse with them, spend some great times, and laugh together. According to Judge, “I think that’s the coolest experience with the All-Star [Game],” Fox Sports MLB said.
The Yankees star immediately clarified, though, that he also looks forward to spending time with the fans there. We have the opportunity to play in a crowded stadium where you can see jerseys from other teams everywhere you turn. That is the main focus. Judge told Rosenthal via Fox Sports MLB, “Bringin’ us all together to share some cool moments on a baseball field.”
In 2024, Judge has exceeded the Yankees’ expectations and beyond their expectations. In 96 games this season, he has already recorded 24 doubles, 34 home runs, 85 RBI, and 73 runs scored. He has also posted a.433 OBP,.679 SLG, 1.112 OPS, a 207 OPS+, and 6.4 WAR. He is the clear frontrunner to win the American League MVP award twice this season.
