Texas Tech football coach Joey McGuire secures commitment from Oklahoma defensive back.

As the temperature rises this summer, so does Joey McGuire’s recruiting prowess. Amid a flurry of official visits, the head coach of Texas Tech football has added another key addition to his 2025 recruiting class.

On Saturday, Deante Lindsay, a defensive back from Ada, Oklahoma, took to social media to announce his decision to join the Red Raiders under McGuire’s leadership. Lindsay becomes the third recruit to pledge to Texas Tech in the past week.

Ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com, the 6-foot-1, 165-pound prospect is listed as the 96th cornerback nationally and the 21st player in Oklahoma. Apart from Texas Tech, Lindsay holds offers from schools like Utah, Boston College, UNLV, Tulsa, among others.

Known for his versatility in high school sports, Lindsay excelled as a two-way player, tallying 51 tackles and five interceptions as a cornerback, while also showcasing his skills as a receiver with 36 catches for 859 yards and 13 touchdowns. Additionally, he demonstrated his prowess in special teams, averaging 36.4 yards on kickoff returns during his junior year. However, his focus will be on the defensive side of the ball at Texas Tech.

Lindsay’s commitment marks the 16th high school recruit for the Red Raiders in the 2025 class, positioning the team at 19th in the national rankings by 247Sports.

Notably, Texas Tech is emphasizing the recruitment of talented defensive backs for the class of 2025, with Lindsay being the fifth member of the secondary in the current recruiting class.

The Red Raiders are actively pursuing additional prospects to bolster their roster. This weekend, the program is hosting several prominent recruits during the busy official visit season before a break in July.
