Nestled in a hotspot for Southeastern talent, Louisiana consistently produces top-tier defenders. It’s crucial for the Tigers to retain as much of that local talent as they can.

Among the standout prospects from Louisiana in the 2026 recruiting class is JaMichael Garrett, a linebacker from Baton Rouge (La.) Central. Last July, the skilled defender committed to Auburn, marking a significant victory for the Tigers at that time. However, this week, Garrett has decided to reopen his recruitment and decommit.

LSU now has another opportunity to target Garrett if they decide to pursue him. Currently, they lack any linebacker commitments in their class, so it would be wise to reevaluate Garrett’s situation.

Garrett is regarded as a consensus four-star recruit by all major recruiting services. In the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is positioned as the No. 222 overall player, the No. 14 linebacker, and the No. 9 player in Louisiana for the 2026 class. His individual rankings are slightly higher, listing him as the No. 158 overall player and the No. 8 linebacker nationally.

A number of impressive programs continue to show interest in Garrett. Some of his top offers include LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Miami, Penn State, USC, Auburn, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Missouri, Colorado, NC State, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Mississippi State, Baylor, UCF, and Houston, among others.

Throughout his time at Central, Garrett has proven to be an exceptionally productive defender, accumulating 178 total tackles, 11 sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. The 6’2″, 205-pound linebacker is a versatile athlete capable of excelling in various aspects of the game at the next level
