According to the manager, Toronto Blue Jays’ shortstop Bichette is will be sidelined for ‘several weeks’ due to a strained right calf. And this raises concerns for the team as they navigate the season without one of their key players.

Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays is expected to miss “multiple weeks” because of a strained right calf, manager John Schneider announced on Saturday.

In the sixth inning of Friday’s 5-4 loss to Detroit, Bichette—who has twice been an All-Star and twice led the AL in hits—injured himself while sprinting to first base. After taking a few steps, he became uncomfortable and was clearly in pain as he hopped before he and the trainer left the field.

The Blue Jays activated utility player Addison Barger from Triple-A Buffalo and placed Bichette on the 10-day disabled list prior to their 7-3 loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

On June 24, Bichette was activated from the disabled list following nine games missed because of a right calf strain. Due to calf pain, he had also exited a game against San Francisco on July 10 and missed the last four games prior to the All-Star break.

Bichette, the son of former MLB player Dante Bichette, has had a difficult season. In 79 games, he had a batting average of.223 with four home runs and thirty RBIs; among qualifying AL batters, his.597 OPS is the lowest.

On Saturday, Leo Jiménez, who replaced Bichette on Friday, got the start at shortstop against the Tigers.
