Now that the 2024-2025 college basketball regular season has come to an end, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its annual honors to recognize the achievements of some of the league’s biggest stars.
Among those stars are UNC basketball’s own RJ Davis and Ian Jackson, as both Tar Heels earned ACC honors for their efforts.
After being named the ACC Player of the Year a season ago, Davis earned All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season. A second-team All-ACC selection this season, the White Plains, New York native averaged 17.3 points, 3.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds per-game, leading the Tar Heels to another 20+ win season.
Jackson earned a spot on the All-Freshman team, gaining the third-most votes among all freshman qualifiers. He also finished in third place in the Sixth Man of the Year voting.
In his first season as a Tar Heel, Jackson averaged 13.3 points per game, the second-best on this year’s UNC basketball squad. He shot the ball at a high percentage, connecting on 56 three-pointers while shooting just under 41% from deep.
The Tar Heels were a better team when he scored in double-figures, as they were 8-2 in games in which the Bronx, New York native led the team in scoring. He scored 20+ points in eight games, including a 27-point outburst in a victory over Notre Dame.
While the UNC basketball program’s season didn’t go as planned, the effort from Davis and Jackson shouldn’t go unnoticed. The Tar Heels’ top scoring punch had their fair share of ups and downs, but when they were on, it was very tough to slow them down.
Davis, Jackson and the UNC basketball program begin postseason play on Wednesday afternoon in the second round of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina.
